Ladan Nouhani: A Synthesis of Tradition and Contemporary Form
Early Influences and the Foundation of Colour:
Born in Ahvaz, Iran, Ladan Nouhani’s early life was marked by a relocation to Isfahan during the Iran-Iraq War. Growing up in a city renowned for its rich artistic heritage deeply influenced her visual vocabulary. Although initially encouraged to pursue a career in medicine, she made a definitive shift towards the arts in 1996. She enrolled at the Isfahan Pardis Art College to study Modern Painting. Having already explored various classical media—from watercolours to oil painting—she focused her academic years on deepening her understanding of Colorology, studying how specific palettes and textures interact to evoke psychological responses.
The Evolution of a Proprietary Style
In 1999, Ladan had the privilege of studying under Mahmoud Farshchian, the globally recognised master of Persian miniature. However, her intention was never to become a traditional miniaturist. Instead, she sought to deconstruct these ancient rules. Today, her proprietary style is defined by a deliberate and thoughtful fusion: she utilises the fragmented, multi-perspective approach of Cubism to break down conventional forms, while applying the hyper-precision of miniature techniques to the micro-details of the canvas. This synthesis of Western modernism and Eastern discipline results in contemporary mixed media works that are entirely her own.
Resilience and Artistic Adaptation
The intense physical demands of creating highly detailed, textured art eventually took a toll, leading to severe osteoarthritis in her neck and spine. Advised by medical professionals to step away from the canvas, Ladan chose to adapt instead. She refined her physical approach and allowed her technique to evolve, translating her physical constraints into a more profound, abstract expression. In 2011, she opened her own gallery in Isfahan, where she spent nearly a decade not only painting but also mentoring a new generation of students and curating seasonal exhibitions.
A New Chapter in the United Kingdom
Ladan’s narrative experienced a significant transition in 2018 when she immigrated to the United Kingdom. The relocation, followed by the birth of her second son, necessitated a brief pause in her studio work. By 2021, fully settled into her new environment, she resumed her practice. Her recent works reflect this period of transition, beautifully bridging her rich Middle Eastern heritage with the contemporary minimalism of her new surroundings.
GolooGoloo Ltd and the Commitment to Authenticity
In 2024, Ladan formalised her expanding vision by founding GolooGoloo Ltd, an officially registered UK trademark. Operating from her private studio in Hale Barns, she curates and oversees the publication of her original works. To ensure that her art meets the strict standards of collectors and interior designers, each piece is reproduced as a museum-grade Giclée print on 100% Cotton Etching Rag. Accompanied by the Hahnemühle Hologram System and a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity, her work remains a secure, lasting addition to any curated space.
